  • Separated is a documentary series that follows three families whose children were removed from their homes by the state. The film explores the emotional and political complexities of parental rights, institutional power, and family preservation. The visual identity needed to reflect the seriousness of the subject matter without resorting to sensationalism, delivering impact through clarity, tension, and restraint.

  • The goal was to develop a visual system that could carry the emotional weight of the story while remaining accessible to a broad audience. The design had to signal urgency and institutional critique while maintaining empathy and narrative focus, delivered across both digital platforms and promotional materials.

  • The core identity centers on a split-color house graphic, symbolizing familial separation and systemic disruption. A minimal, high-contrast color palette paired with clean, modern typography helped convey seriousness without spectacle. The visual tone prioritizes quiet tension over dramatization, offering a strong but measured framework for the film’s message.

  • Led the design and development of the documentary’s visual identity, including key art, typography, and color system. Designed all supporting collateral across digital and marketing touchpoints, such as website thumbnails, social graphics, and sales materials for distribution and promotion.

  • The identity system was applied across web and social platforms, as well as sales and promotional materials. Deliverables included branded thumbnails, social content, marketing assets, and a landing page used to promote the documentary to partners and viewers.

  • Typography was selected for clarity and weight, evoking urgency without relying on dramatics. A limited palette, anchored in stark contrast, communicates seriousness and allows for cohesion across platforms.
